Malaysia recently witnessed a shocking school homicide case that has drawn widespread public concern. A 14-year-old male student fatally stabbed a 16-year-old senior, Ye Xin Xuan, on campus. Initial reports suggested the victim sustained around 50 stab wounds, but the family clarified during a press conference that Ye had over 200 injuries across her body.
According to Malaysian media reports, the incident occurred on the morning of the 14th at approximately 9:30 a.m. at SMK Bandar Sri Damansara 4 in Selangor. The 14-year-old boy, who was suspected of having mental health issues, entered the school with a knife, followed Ye into the girls’ restroom, and attacked her inside a toilet cubicle. Teachers, with the help of the suspect’s older brother (who attends the same school), managed to disarm and restrain him. Police later arrested the boy on suspicion of murder.
At a press conference on the 16th, Ye’s mother, Madam Wong, tearfully recounted the tragedy. She stated that her daughter had locked herself inside the restroom cubicle, but the suspect climbed over the door and jumped into the stall before attacking her, then escaped the same way. Teachers broke into the cubicle only to find Ye unresponsive. Police confirmed that the injuries were concentrated on the upper right body and thigh, with the lungs also punctured.
Regarding online rumors that the attack stemmed from a rejected confession, Madam Wong clarified that the suspect and her daughter were not of the same age, class, or grade, and the family had never heard of any prior harassment or interactions. Police also reported that the suspect had a one-sided infatuation with the victim, while Ye herself did not know him. Authorities further noted the possibility that the suspect had been influenced by certain video games or social media content, and that his use of gloves suggested premeditation.
Adam, a classmate of the victim, shared that the class was having an exam when Ye requested to use the restroom. After she did not return for about 20 minutes, the teacher went to check and saw the suspect holding a knife and behaving abnormally. Several teachers and the suspect’s brother later intervened and subdued him. Adam described Ye as gentle, helpful, and well-liked. He also confirmed that neither he nor Ye knew the suspect. He admitted the incident had severely affected him emotionally, leading him to miss school for two days. The school has since arranged counseling services to support affected students.
