(Petaling Jaya, 22nd) Police announced that no criminal elements were found at the scene where two Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) students fell to their deaths. However, investigations have been opened under the anti-bullying provisions of the Penal Code to determine whether bullying was involved in either case.

According to reports, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus stated that the investigation began after the mother of the 22-year-old female victim lodged a police report, alleging that her daughter had been bullied. The student was found dead early Wednesday morning at Melati Garden. A post-mortem examination confirmed that the cause of death was multiple injuries sustained from a fall from height.

Police reiterated that no criminal elements were detected at the scene and that the case was initially classified as sudden death, but further investigation will focus on whether bullying played a role.

Nevertheless, the 53-year-old mother of the deceased lodged a police report at around 2 p.m. the same day, alleging that her daughter had been bullied at the university.
Fadil further confirmed that at 9:35 p.m. that night, police received another report involving a 21-year-old man who had fallen to his death at a residential area in Melati Garden. Police found no criminal elements at the scene, and the case was likewise classified as sudden death.

Under the amended Penal Code provisions, it is an offence to use threatening, abusive, or insulting language or communication, or to engage in threatening or humiliating behaviour with the intent to cause harassment, distress, fear, or alarm. Upon conviction, offenders may face up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
