Supporting Parents, Understanding Children: A Heartfelt Sharing Session for Families with Special Needs Children

In the journey of raising a child—especially one with emotional disorders, autism (ASD), or other developmental challenges—parents often carry far more stress than most families realize.

In the journey of raising a child—especially one with emotional disorders, autism (ASD), or other developmental challenges—parents often carry far more stress than most families realize.
A child’s unique behavior, communication style, and emotional expression can be confusing, and the sense of helplessness often weighs heavier than physical exhaustion.

To support these parents, we recently organized a “Understanding Children, Supporting Parents” Family Sharing Session.
The participants were mostly parents of emotionally sensitive children or those showing traits of ASD.
Our goal was simple:
to help parents see their child’s inner world—and to help them rediscover their own strength.

Why did we host this sharing session?

Many assume that children are “hard to communicate with,” but the truth is often this:
Parents may not fully understand the deeper emotions, needs, and thought patterns behind their child’s behavior.

Through this session, we hoped parents could:

1. Understand their child’s inner world

Why do children become silent?
Why do they repeat certain routines or behaviors?
Behind each action is a logic and emotion—just expressed differently.

2. Learn more effective ways to accompany their child

How do we respond to big emotions?
How can we help children feel safe and understood?
We shared practical, everyday tools that parents can apply immediately.

3. Find their own support and inner strength

Parents are human too.
They deserve understanding, empathy, and a safe space to share.
When parents feel supported, they can better support their children.

Session Highlights: Seeing the Child, Seeing the Parent

During this session, our speakers with psychology and counseling backgrounds guided parents through meaningful interactions, helping them view their children’s behaviors from new perspectives.

What touched us most was this—
as parents listened to one another’s stories, many began to understand their own hearts more deeply.

They said:
“I realize I’m not alone.”
“I finally understand that my child isn’t doing it on purpose.”
“I thought I was the only one feeling exhausted—but many parents are walking the same path.”

In those moments, we witnessed not only parents’ love for their children,
but also the beginning of their own healing and self-acceptance.

Children are not lacking ability—they simply need to be seen

During the workshop, we shared a message that resonated strongly with every parent:

“Children are not being difficult—they express emotions differently.
The more a parent understands, the safer a child feels.”

A child’s inner world is often far more sensitive, rich, and nuanced than adults imagine.
They are not lacking ability—
they are waiting for an adult who is willing to slow down and communicate in a way they can understand.

We see every parent—and we know how hard you try

This session was not just about learning.
It was a moment of connection, honesty, and shared strength.

Some parents cried, some nodded, and some finally voiced worries they had held inside for a long time.
To every parent, we want to say:

You are doing an amazing job.
Your child is fortunate to have you.
